David Marsh

David qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and has specialised in family law since that date. He has significant experience advising clients on various matters relating to family law ranging from parents seeking contact with their children to advising clients in respect of their divorce. Whilst in private practice David was certified as a member of the Law Society, Children Law Scheme and accepted instructions from Cafcass (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) to represent children in the Family Court.

Rajan Mawji
Raj specialises in Prison Law and Criminal Appeals, with a proven track record of twenty years. He represents clients in all aspects of prison law undertaken by HLAC. He also has care and conduct of numerous Criminal Appeal Cases, where a potential miscarriage of Justice has taken place.
Professionally, he was called to the Bar of England and Wales in2003. He was admitted as a Solicitor in June 2014. Rajan has been an active member of the Association of Prison Lawyers since it was founded.

Gillian Kelly

Aminah Ali

Aminah Ali is an Immigration adviser accredited at Level 2 in Asylum and Protection. She has significant experience advising clients through refugee family reunion applications. Aminah helps refugees reunite with their loved ones by providing clear, compassionate, and expert guidance throughout the application process.

Dalal Al-Yafai

Christopher Riley

Chris has worked at Sheffield Hallam University since 2007. He started as a Lecturer in Law before being appointed to Senior Lecturer in 2009 and Principal Lecturer in Law in 2015. He has taught a number of modules and held a number of management roles during his time in academia. Before joining the University, he spent a number of years working in the legal profession.

Kushal Sood

Kush has been proactive throughout his career in campaigning for fair access to publicly funded and affordable legal advice, and for a non-discriminatory legal sector. He has been Committee Secretary for the Association of Prison Lawyers, and contributed to numerous consultations on legal aid and related issues. He has developed a keen interest over the years in the law’s relationship with prison abolition, and the abolition movement more widely. He also has an interest in the relationship between utopianism and legal aid.

Anna Rudkin
Anna joined the law department at SHU in January 2009 and has taught on a wide variety of modules and has experience of cross faculty teaching. She has held various administrative roles in the department. In her current role as course leader, she is responsible for the effective management of the course and enhancing the quality of academic delivery and the student experience.

Kayeleigh Ali

Kayeleigh is an alumni of Sheffield Hallam University and has been our legal receptionist since 2022. During her time as a student, Kayeleigh worked within SHU Law – enjoying the experience thoroughly- and is now grateful to have the opportunity to be able to work with the staff that helped to shape her career in law.

Kayeleigh aspires to qualify as a solicitor and is doing her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law. She is due to complete this in 2026.

Goldie Millan

Goldie qualified as a solicitor in 1995. She was senior partner at ‘Millan Solicitors’ which she set up in partnership in 2004. She became a sole practioner in 2012. She specialises in civil litigation and is a former member and assessor of the Law Society Personal injury panel. She joined teaching in 2021 and is a fellow of Higher Education. She has also completed a PhD  researching into the subject of professional ethics in the solicitors’ profession. 

She joined Hallam Legal Advice Centre in 2025 as Supervising Solicitor.
